Flucloxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant antibiotic effective against Gram-positive bacteria but has minimal effect on Gram-negative organisms. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, preventing bacterial growth and replication.
✔ It interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis, a crucial component that strengthens bacterial cell walls.
✔ It inhibits transpeptidase enzymes, leading to cell wall weakening and bacterial rupture.
✔ Flucloxacillin is resistant to bacterial penicillinase, making it effective against penicillin-resistant staphylococci.
